TITLE: VETERINARIAN                 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (VMDL) is seeking an experienced veterinarian to enhance client experience.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Answering clients’ questions regarding diagnostics cases
Assisting clients to better understand and utilize diagnostic reports
Running booths and exhibits at various local and regional animal health conventions and events
Conducting field investigations
Communicating with commodity groups and organizations
Fostering clients bonding
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

DVM or VMD
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mixed animal practice. Individuals with 5 years of experience in food animal medicine will be considered. Missouri veterinary practice license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Dedication to veterinary diagnostic medicine is expected.
Exceptional interpersonal skills are preferred.

SHIFT

8am – 5pm M-F, some evenings and weekends may be required

SALARY RANGE

RANGE: $62,000 - $118,752

TITLE:   RESEARCH LAB TECH SR 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY 

To perform professional-technical tasks usually involving supervision over a project and participation in a variety of difficult research procedures in the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab (Bacteriology & Molecular Diagnostics areas of the lab).

 CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Perform RNA and DNA extractions on a variety of veterinary clinical specimens using standard laboratory protocols, followed by both conventional and real-time PCR.

Perform diagnostic microbiology tests and determinations in the areas of Diagnostic Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology.

This will include both classical microbiology techniques and the use of specialized equipment.

Perform microbiological analysis that will involve the recovery, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility determination of bacterial, mycotic and mycobacterial agents from animal tissues and specimens.

Utilize and maintain equipment for antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Conduct analysis of test performance and maintain quality control of all assays, requiring the exercise of ingenuity, improvisation and judgment.

Follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and appropriate Quality Control/Quality Assurance guidelines.

Be willing to be trained in Environmental Health and Safety procedures and to follow EHS and biosafety protocols.

Enter test results into established VetView client system and maintain records of performed tests.

Complete assigned projects within a timely manner and maintain turnaround time for diagnostic duties.

Communicate with diagnostic laboratory clients as needed.

Direct and/or participate in inventory and ordering supplies, materials and equipment.

Make decisions and determinations on assigned projects within limits established by supervisors.

Activities require accuracy and strict attention to detail, by using standard or special procedures, equipment, examinations and analyses. The ideal candidate for this position is a quick learner who can easily adapt to a new work environment.  

The incumbent should be able and willing to work a flexible schedule. Some same-day tests may require working until late in the evening; weekend work should also be expected.

Salary 

Salary Range:$13.27 - $15.27

Minimum Qualifications 

A high school diploma and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is necessary.

Six months to one year of professional, directly related experience is necessary.
