Anatomical Pathology Residency

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and VMDL are accepting applications for a three-year residency in veterinary anatomic pathology beginning Aug. 1.

Based within the Department of Pathobiology and Integrative Biomedical Sciences, this residency offers advanced diagnostic training alongside seven anatomic pathology faculty members, one avian pathologist and two additional residents. Residents contribute to diagnostic services for the Veterinary Health Center and external VMDL clients while gaining extensive experience in both necropsy and biopsy pathology.

The VMDL is Missouri’s only American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians-accredited veterinary diagnostic laboratory, a National Animal Health Laboratory Network Level I laboratory and a Food and Drug Administration Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network Tier I laboratory. Each year, the laboratory processes more than 55,000 accessions, including approximately 1,000 necropsy cases and more than 10,000 biopsy cases through the Anatomical Pathology section.

Residents receive training in gross and microscopic examination of specimens and participate in specialty rounds and conferences, including pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology and ocular pathology rounds, as well as the JPC Wednesday Slide Conference. The program is designed to prepare trainees for board certification through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.

Candidates must be eligible for Missouri veterinary licensure, including a passing NAVLE score and graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or completion of ECFVG or PAVE certification requirements.
