The Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (VMDL), Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine at University of Missouri is seeking a qualified candidate for an anatomic pathology position. This full-time faculty appointment will be hired at the level of either NTT Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and career aspirations. The VMDL is the only full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians in the state of Missouri. The VMDL is a Level I Lab of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and Tier I Lab of FDA Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network (Vet-LIRN). The VMDL is composed of eight diagnostic service sections: anatomic pathology, avian pathology, bacteriology, clinical pathology, histopathology/immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, serology and toxicology. The anatomic pathology section currently has six pathologists. The successful candidate will share responsibilities in teaching of veterinary professional and graduate curricula, training residents, providing diagnostic service with the team of anatomic pathologists, participating and supporting MU research community.

1) Teaching: 0.5 – 0.6 FTE. Responsibilities include teaching parts of the general pathology and systemic pathology to veterinary professional students, teaching post-mortem examinations to veterinary students rotating through the VMDL, training anatomical pathology residents, participating in clinical rounds and journal clubs.
2) Diagnostic Service: 0.3 – 0.4 FTE. The major commitment of this position is to provide comprehensive diagnostic services to University of Missouri (MU) Veterinary Health Center (VHC), non-MU veterinary clinics, animal industry, government agencies, livestock owners and companion animal owners. Responsibilities include performing postmortem examinations and biopsy evaluations and providing consultation to clients. Diagnostic service is fully integrated with clinical teaching. The pathologist in this position is expected to develop and/or maintain strength in at least one of the following subspecialty areas: neuropathology, oncopathology, GI pathology, and/or food animal pathology.
3) Research: 0.05-0.1 FTE. Collaborating with other faculty members in the research community to develop and maintain an active scholarly program. If the individual has sufficient research background and credentials to be appointed on the tenure-track, it is anticipated their research will lead to extramurally funded research programs.
Candidate must possess a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent) and ACVP board certification (at least have passed Phase I Exam).
Candidates for an associate clinical professor appointment should have a record of excellence in anatomical pathology teaching, diagnostics and a documented record of scholarship.
