Sample typeSerum or lithium heparinized plasma; no whole blood. 0.5 ml for 6 or fewer chemistries, 1 ml for 7 or more.

Special submission instructions
  • Collect blood for serum in red top or serum separator tube.
  • Allow to clot.
  • Spin down within 1 hour of collection and remove serum.
  • Place serum in new red top tube or other tube without additive.
  • Alternatively, collect blood for plasma in a lithium heparinized tube (green top).
  • Remove plasma within 1 hour of collection and place in a red top tube or other tube without additive.
  • Ship samples overnight with cold packs Monday-Thursday.
