| Special submission instructions | Submit sample with cold packs overnight, Monday-Thursday. Microscopic examination of urine sediment is most accurate on fresh samples (within 2 hours of collection). Significant degradation and alteration of urine sediment microscopic components will occur after this short window of time. If cytologic findings are of interest in a urine sample, we recommend preparation of direct smears/wedge smears of urine sediment on multiple glass slides, air drying the slides, and submitting the slides as a cytology sample. |
