The mission of the One Health-Rabies section is to provide accurate and timely diagnostic service for samples submitted for rabies serology. Assays are available to verify rabies vaccination status in humans and animals. The two primary assays are the Rapid Fluorescent Focus Inhibition test (RFFIT) and the Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization test (FAVN). ELISA testing for rabies antibody is also offered, both blocking and indirect ELISA. The laboratory personnel have extensive experience performing rabies serology for many purposes including:
- Vaccine response (human and animal)
- Research
- Clinical trials
- Assay development and qualification
The One Health-Rabies Laboratory meets qualification standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and has experience testing per GXP’s standards.
