Across the country and at home in Missouri, animal health laboratories are lending their support to the pandemic response. AAVLD animal health laboratories have the scientific expertise, equipment, and technical capabilities to make meaningful contributions to the current public health crisis. Due to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments requirements, the VMDL is not testing human samples. Instead, we have provided equipment (KF Flex RNA Extraction Platform) and lab supplies (viral transport media and plastics) to medical labs to increase their testing capacity. We are prepared to test companion animals for COVID-19 and provide viral transport media to veterinarians, provided that the appropriate authorizations have been obtained. As always, we are here to serve you and the state of Missouri.
